Explore Florina art, photograph Kastoria peninsula, savor Korça coffee, swim Pogradec beaches, pray at St. Naum, wander Bay-of-Bones, toast Ohrid sunset. Three lakes, three countries, wonder.

Bitola – Florina (Greece) – Kastoria (Greece) – Korça (Albania) – Pogradec (Albania) – St.Naum Ohridski (N.Macedonia) – Museum “The Bay of Bones” (N.Macedonia) – Ohrid – Bitola

The Balkan Lakes Grand Odyssey is a fourteen-hour full-circle journey that weaves through Greece, Albania, and North Macedonia, connecting three lakes, three cultures, and a wealth of historical landmarks. The day begins in Bitola with a guided tour through the city’s most treasured sites, including the Clock Tower, Isak Çelebi Mosque, the covered Bezisten market, and the Old Bazaar. Guests also visit the Yeni Mosque, the richly painted St. Demetrius Church, the Shirok Sokak promenade, and civic landmarks like the Catholic Church, Heart of Jesus monument, and the House of the Army.

The National Museum includes a room dedicated to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, while the Roman ruins of Heraclea Lyncestis and a vehicle loop past the Jewish, French, and German cemeteries round out the city’s story.

From Bitola, the tour heads south into Greece, stopping in Florina before continuing to Kastoria, a lakeside town famous for its peninsula views and traditional stone houses. The route then leads into Albania, with a scenic drive to Korça for a glimpse of its broad boulevards and bazaar district, followed by lakeside Pogradec, known for its koran fish and relaxed café scene along Lake Ohrid.

Reentering North Macedonia, guests stop at the monastery of St. Naum Ohridski, perched above the lake with a view of Albania in the distance. A visit to the Bay of Bones Museum, a reconstructed prehistoric settlement on stilts, gives a vivid sense of ancient lake life. The day continues with a walking tour through UNESCO-listed Ohrid, including stops at Filevi’s pearl workshop, the Robevi House, the handmade paper workshop, Church of St. Sophia, the ancient theatre, St. Mary Peribleptos, Samuel’s Fortress, Plaoshnik, and St. John at Kaneo.

This is a long but deeply rewarding journey for travelers who want to experience the heart of the southern Balkans in a single, unforgettable day.
