Skim prehistoric Bay of Bones walkways, drift by St. Naum’s crystal springs, lunch in Albanian Pogradec, climb Radožda’s cliff chapel, and toast sunset over Struga’s Drim River. Six lakeside gems come together in one seamless 12-hour loop.
Ohrid - Museum “The Bay of Bones” (N. Macedonia) - St. Naum Ohridski - Pogradec (Albania) - Radožda - Struga - Ohrid
This well-paced lakeside journey brings together six unique stops along and around Lake Ohrid, offering a full day of discovery across history, nature, and borderlines. The tour begins in Ohrid and travels south to the Museum on Water, known as the Bay of Bones. This open-air site is a reconstruction of a prehistoric settlement built on stilts above the lake, where wooden walkways connect replica huts and offer a glimpse into life as it may have been thousands of years ago.
From there, the road continues to the Monastery of St. Naum, one of North Macedonia’s most visited spiritual sites. Surrounded by tranquil gardens and roaming peacocks, the monastery also offers a peaceful boat ride through the crystal-clear springs that feed Lake Ohrid. The calm waters, shaded by willows and framed by reeds, create a short but unforgettable stretch of the journey.
Crossing the border into Albania, the tour stops in Pogradec for a relaxed lakeside lunch. Known for its simple and fresh cuisine, this town offers local specialties like koran fish, served just steps from the water. After lunch, the loop heads north to Radožda, a quiet fishing village tucked against the cliffs. A short uphill walk leads to the cave church of St. Archangel Michael, carved into the rock and decorated with centuries-old frescoes overlooking the lake.
The final stop is Struga, where the Black Drim River flows out of Lake Ohrid. A stroll along the riverside promenade at sunset, perhaps with a drink in hand, adds a relaxed and poetic close to the day. This tour is ideal for those who want a mix of soft adventure, border-crossing charm, and lakeside culture wrapped into one seamless and scenic 12-hour loop. Passport required.
