Stroll Korça cafés, uncover Moskopole frescoes, lunch by Pogradec lake breeze, absorb Ohrid twilight icons. An artful loop marrying Albanian history with Macedonian waterfront romance perfectly.
Bitola – Korça (Albania) – Moskopole (Albania) – Pogradec (Albania) – St.Naum Ohridski (N.Macedonia) – Museum “The Bay of Bones” (N.Macedonia) – Ohrid – Bitola
The Korça Heritage & Ohrid Shores tour is a fourteen-hour cross-border cultural journey that begins in Bitola and stretches through Albania before ending along the lakeside streets of Ohrid. The day opens with a guided exploration of Bitola’s rich heritage. Guests visit the Clock Tower, Isak Çelebi Mosque, Bezisten market, and Old Bazaar, followed by the elegant Yeni Mosque and St. Demetrius Church.
The Shirok Sokak promenade, Catholic Church, Heart of Jesus monument, and House of the Army offer a full picture of the city’s civic and religious history. The National Museum includes a room dedicated to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, while Heraclea Lyncestis reveals the city’s Roman past. A short panoramic drive past Bitola’s Jewish, French, and German cemeteries completes the opening chapter of the tour.
Crossing into Albania, the first major stop is Korça, a city known for its Orthodox cathedral, early 20th-century architecture, and lively café and tavern culture. There is time to walk through the museum district, sample local beer, or simply enjoy the atmosphere. From Korça, the route continues to Moskopole, a mountain village once famous as a center of learning and trade, where a few beautifully painted 18th-century monasteries still stand as reminders of its former glory.
The tour then descends to Pogradec, a lakeside town on Lake Ohrid’s Albanian shore, where guests enjoy a relaxed lunch by the water. Reentering North Macedonia, the group visits the monastery of St. Naum Ohridski, followed by the Bay of Bones museum, a lakeside archaeological site featuring a reconstructed stilt village.
The final part of the tour leads into the heart of Ohrid. A walking route includes stops at Filevi’s pearl workshop, the Robevi House, a handmade paper workshop, St. Sophia, the ancient theatre, St. Mary Peribleptos, Samuel’s Fortress, Plaoshnik, and the Church of St. John at Kaneo, just in time for sunset. This tour is perfect for travelers drawn to Balkan history, sacred art, and lakefront beauty.
